Where is my Ergonomist??
I'm so freakin' uncomfortable at work. I think it's my chair. It really really sucks. I tried lowering it today to see if that will make a difference. But alas, it's not working. i'm still in a crapload of pain.....argh.
Babies Named a Bad, Bad Thing
http://notwithoutmyhandbag.com/babynames/index.html

okay, so as i was thinking about how Coco Arquette really isn't all that bad...I remembered this website about really bad baby names.

You should check it out.
Among my personal faves:

"We aren't having kids for another year or two, but we like Kellyna Nychole, Taryn Mykah and Mykenzie Kathryn for girls."
This woman was indicted under the Flagrant Over-Use of the Letters K and Y Act of 1983.

and

"For a girl I was thinking of naming her Quinlynn or Quinnlyn or something spelt similar. I can't find it in any books. What do you think of this name? Does it sound feminine?"
No, it sounds like a 19th century cure for malaria

Canadian Elections, Eh?
I'm actually surprised at how many of my friends don't vote. I guess maybe it's because i grew up in a very politics-oriented family. I can't recall a dinner conversation where politics didn't come up at least several times during the meal. My mom and stepdad are hardcore Democrats. He even canvassed for at least one Kennedy.

Voting shouldn't be an option. People should get off their lazy asses and vote. People died so we could have this privilege today. If you don't vote, you forfeit your right to complain.

I guess I can get off my soapbox, since these elections are over and the Liberals have been re-elected, but to a minority government.

The funny thing is, i know almost nothing about Canadian politics. I took an internet poll yesterday based on the issues and it came up that I should be voting conservative, which i did. I may have also voted Conservative because my husband had a huge blue Josh Cooper sign put up on our front lawn...

It's kind of sad that I've lived in Toronto for the past 7 years and know so little about Canadian government. Next time I will be way more prepared.

Austin Powers in Goldmember
"His fajha! You know, the fajha."
"You know Goldmember, I dont speak freaky-deaky dutch. Okay perv boy?"
"Fajha, his dad, dad is fajha."
"Oh his dad, oh his father... father... father."

okay...i'm laughing my ass off just typing this quote in.

On Saturday we were discussing what we thought the funniest movies were. I think it's safe to say that this is up there on my funny movie list. It might be the funniest actually.

Hmm... interesting...Austin Powers didn't make the AFI Top 100 Funny Movies http://www.tigersweat.com/movies/funniest/
Is it just me...
or is Ashlee Simpson completely untalented and not at all pretty?? Why oh why is she coming out with an album? And i hear that she's getting her own show? What's wrong with MTV? I guess she's lucky that she gets to piggyback onto her sister's success. I guess she's been taking lessons from Nick Lachey!

or has Britney Spears completely gone off the deep end? Getting engaged to Kevin Federline??? I hope this one works out better than her last marriage. Seems she might be following in the footsteps of a certain Ms. Lopez...

or have Hollywood moms gone crazy with their baby names? Coco Arquette and Apple Martin are not alone...there's Pilot Inspektor Lee (Jason Lee's son), Speck Wildhorse Melloncamp, Elijah Bob Patricius Guggi Q. Hewson (Bono's son), Audio Science (Shannyn Sossamon's son), and Makena'lei Gordon (Helen Hunt's son).

monday musing...Mary-Kate Olsen
it's been quite the whirlwind June for those teen tycoons. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen graduated from high school, and turned 18, automatically making them co-presidents in their billion dollar empire, Dualstar.

What will those fans of the Olsen twins countdown (http://jdigital.pyoko.org/olsen.php) do with their time now that they are 18 and legal? My guess is they will move on to Lindsey Lohan, who turns 18 sometime in July.

But, perhaps the biggest news to come from the Olsens this June has been the shocking news that Mary-Kate Olsen has entered a treatment facility “to seek professional help for a health-related issue,” To the layman this means that Mary-Kate has an eating disorder. Shocked, are you? As a lifelong member of the disordered eating club, I'm hardly surprised. Mary-Kate, a girl i once thought had the perfect body, has been looking rather...well...bad..lately. http://www.gawker.com/topic/mary-kate.jpg

I have heard that it was her father who pushed her to get help. He was very clever too - had he waited a week longer, Mary-Kate would have been over 18 and could have refused to be admitted to the facility. Whether or not this is true, it is nice to see that she is getting help for her "eating disorder"(I love how the media puts these words in quotation marks...) and not continuing to deny her problem (like some other people in Hollywood....can we say Lara Flynn Boyle anyone???) or poke fun at the issue on Saturday Night Live, where she shouted to an extra playing herself, "You're too skinny! Eat a sandwich!"

So...I've done it. I've jumped on the blog bandwagon...
In an attempt to publish quality material, and not bore people to absolute tears, I will take the Nick Hornby challenge.

In High Fidelity - a book written by none other than the great Nick Hornby - The narrator is described as a professional critic. He’s good at it. Music criticism is what he does. Then he starts an independent label and produces a record made by a couple of talented, shoplifting skate punks in order to, as his girlfriend says, “put something new into the world.”

I will take this opportunity to try to produce new material. A web journal is, in fact, a published piece of work. The web is my oyster. Hang on to your hats, folks.

I'm a displaced American writer, mom, and wife living in Canada who muses about my life, my kids, my tv watching and my slight obsession with celebrities.
